BRRR … IT’S GETTING COLD OUT THERE …

Taking care of one’s skin is ALWAYS important – 24/7 and 365. However, colder weather can cause our skin to dry out even more than usual. A drop in temperature can cause our skin to battle to retain its moisture, leading to itchy and dry skin. To help prevent this, it is vital to keep our skin thoroughly moisturised during the colder months.

Some tips to help take care of your skin this winter:

  • The benefits of hydration are well known – what you put in, shows up! During winter, make sure you stay properly hydrated. It helps to improve the skin’s elasticity, combat oiliness and helps one’s skin to glow.
  • Use a humidifier. For those needing a little bit of something extra – humidifiers can help to pull moisture back into the air helping with dry and itchy skin.
  • Long, hot showers – tempting but, perhaps, not the greatest idea. Too long and too hot can strip the skin of its moisture, further depleting the skin’s natural protective barrier.
  • Pat – don’t rub. Rubbing one’s skin after a shower or bath can further irritate dry skin. Rather pat, don’t rub, to help retain more moisture.
  • Get that glow! Exercising is a great way of helping to ensure great looking skin. It provides oxygen and nutrients to the skin, clearing away impurities. Nothing beats a post-workout glow! It also reduces stress, and helps with sleep, further aiding a beautiful skin.
  • Comfortable clothing. Many winter fabrics can irritate and scratch one’s skin. Try and prevent winter fabrics, such as wool and rough clothing, from being in direct contact with your skin.
  • Moisturise! Moisturise! Moisturise! A great defence against the dehydrating effects of winter! Happy Event’s range of ante-natal and firming creams are made from natural olive oil. Clinical trials have found that olive oil has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-aging properties because it is packed with antioxidants and vitamins such as vitamins A, D and E. These vitamins hydrate the skin by building the skin’s moisture barrier to prevent loss of moisture.
